Wednesday night.

I am pooped, but I have to share:

My sister Tina made it here safe and sound this afternoon. We were all happy to see her, but Isla was the only one that let out a squeal upon seeing her!

We all decided to head up to the hospital together. Greg and Tina went to visit with Oakes, and I took Isla with me to a meeting for parents with "Heart Babies". As you might imagine I was a bit of a mess when I introduced myself to the group, but it was comforting to know that there are other people that have gone through very similar situations. Dr. Egtastady was attending the meeting and as he was sharing with the group the hospitals plans to allow families WATCH surgeries by the end of this year, my phone started buzzing. I was getting texts from both Tina and Greg saying that Oakes was waking up and we should get to the room! I could not get out of that meeting fast enough!

When I got to the CICU, Tina stepped out and took Isla while I put on all of my gear. Oakes was awake, he was definitely groggy, I think the nurse used the term "high" in describing his state, but his eyes were open, he was tracking us and responding to our touch and voices. I had adrenaline pumping through my veins, I was SO excited to see his little eyes! My sweet Oakesie! His nurse tonight, Sarah, who had him last week too, said that she was amazed at his progress over the last 4 days. This was SO great to hear!

Sarah repositioned Oakes and then he drifted off a bit. The whole time, Isla and Tina were in the window peeking in. When I grabbed my camera, Greg made his way to the window to play Peek-A-Boo with Isla. She was a little taken aback by the gear, but warmed up very quickly. Once we got home, Isla talked non-stop about seeing Oakes....I think it was a much needed visit for all of us.

Praying for more days like today!
XO, Becky

  14. Hi Becky - I was one of the moms at the Heart 2 Heart meeting last night and you were incredibly strong to be able to attend and share Oakes's story with us! I got home and funny enough, my sister/babysitter was telling me about a blog she had found through a local interior decorator's facebook page and said Oakes's name - what a crazy coincidence! I want you to know that everyone in the group is thinking and praying for Oakes and your family. He is an amazing little boy and I know he will be home in your arms where he belongs very soon!
