Wednesday day.

I am about to scoot to the airport to pick up my sister, Tina who will be our house guest for awhile, but I quickly wanted to report that Oakes is having another good day! When I got here in the morning there were three nurses at his bedside changing his the dressing on his chest (which looks amazing!) and loving on him! Shortly after that he had all of his bedding changed out, which can only improve the day! Then, Shannon, his amazing nurse (& girlfriend) helped me to get a few footprints from Oakes. Somehow that has never happened and while he is sedated I wanted to take advantage.

Oakes' numbers look good today. Shannon said his gases were "beautiful" this morning, he is now getting 5mL of milk on an hourly drip, up from 2mL, and he is off of Nitric Oxide which has been weaning for a few days now. His urine is up too, Shannon just said, "he is peeing like a racehorse." Still no test results from the Pheresis, but we should get those at some point today.

We have LOVE, LOVE, LOVED hearing from everyone! Thank you all! XO, Becky

Our perfect Oakes.

Resting as his chest bandages get changed. Besides the beautiful baby there is a lot going on in this image. On Oakes face is tape holding down his NG tube and keeping the vent in place. His forehead has a monitor that reads the O2 levels in his brain. On his right upper chest is his Broviac central line, on his left is the line that they are using for Pheresis. The pinkish line on his chest is the remaining scar from his heart surgeries, and you can see a little of the scar from the lung trasplant, which has been refered to as a clam shell, because it is scalloped. My favorite detail of this picture, though are the 2 perfect little baby teeth.

  4. I got a letter in the mail today from the State of Illinois thanking me for joining the organ donor registry - apparently you don't have to get your family to consent anymore - which is awesome. I will remind my friends on facebook every month to register until they all have done so. In honor of a little man I'll probably never meet!
